Microdosing chocolate bars from Diamond Shruumz may have caused serious symptoms, including seizures, FDA says

A nationwide warning has been issued related to all flavors of Diamond Shruumz Microdosing Chocolate Bars following a series of severe illnesses reported in individuals who consumed them. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has strongly advised people to refrain from consuming, selling, or serving the bars.

The bars are infused with certain types of mushrooms that contain psilocybin, which can produce hallucinogenic effects. They are intended for microdosing and can be purchased online or in person at retailers such as vape and smoke shops.

The warning stems from a joint investigation by the  FDA , the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), America’s Poison Centers, and state and local partners, initiated due to reports of adverse health effects associated with the consumption of these chocolate bars, which, according to the Diamond Shruumz website, make microdosing a “real treat for those seeking a subtle, sumptuous experience and a more creative state of mind. We’re talkin’ confections with a kick.”

Microdosing, in one definition, is the taking of approximately 1/5 to 1/20 of a recreational dose of a psychedelic drug, which some research supports can help improve mental health conditions such as depression. But because products, such as the Microdosing Chocolate Bars, are not independently tested, consumers face uncertainty about the ingredients in them, posing potential risks.

Who got sick from these chocolate bars?

As of June 7, a total of eight illnesses have been reported across four states, with symptoms ranging from seizures and central nervous system depression to abnormal heart rates and nausea.

While no deaths have been reported, six individuals have required hospitalization.

It is not yet known why these products are causing illness and the investigation is ongoing.
